LA OMG

It's lucky 12-13-14 and we are in Hollywood!!! Andy and I landed this afternoon after a five-and-a-half hour flight from Washington, D.C. On our flight was a heavy metal band from Finland called HIM. They looked like pretty bad-you-know-what rockers. They're on the internet and everything. Anyways, that was our first star sighting. I'm also telling everyone that I'm going to be on Jeopardy! so maybe that's their first star sighting!

The weather is awesome! I surprised Andy by hiring a Cadillac to meet us at the airport and drive us to the hotel. It was such a fun ride! The traffic is insane. Each side of the highway has four lanes (I-89 only has two) and all of those lanes were full. Our driver was very nice, but there don't seem to be texting, speed, signaling, or seatbelt laws here, so I was in full "put a helmet on!!!" mode.

It feels like everything is famous here (Miley Cyrus wasn't kidding, it's a party in the USA). I kept seeing signs for and buildings of things that I have only read about... Ventura Boulevard, La Cienega, Mulholland Drive, Variety, Fox Studios, Santa Monica, Venice Beach... There were too many things to take pictures of and I'm not even kidding when I say that, for a stretch of the highway, there were just mansions all over the darned place. It's nuts. I spotted the Hollywood(land) sign off in the distance and it was too cool!! I will try to get a picture tomorrow.

The weirdest part is that there is no snow. The weather here is like May or June in Vermont; it's like we flew to Summer. Seeing Christmas trees is kind of funny! A fella we talked to at the hotel lounge said that there is a shopping area that sounded like Church Street called The Grove and, at Christmas time, every store on the street launches fake snow off the roof every 15 minutes. I said, "Honey, our house is under about two feet right now. Snow is the last thing I want to see!" But we are still going to check it out. This chap gave us the ideal one-day Hollywood tour and taught me how to use Uber, so we are going to do that tomorrow, our free day before the big J.

Here is our agenda:

He said that we should try to catch a movie at the Arclight Cinemas on Hollywood and Vine. Apparently it's where all the stars go to the movies. He said he saw Jessica Alba there a few weeks ago! Universal Studios is right across the street from the hotel, so maybe we can hit that up if we have time. Who knows?!? It's overwhelming! Andy is pretty psyched that there is an In & Out Burger 100 feet from the hotel. Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

Right now, I have to get unpacked. My suitcase weighs 45 pounds and there's a lot to pull out of it (I have already done one costume change and it's only 6pm). Regardless, the Gagners of Starksboro are jet lagged, in need of a shower, and ready to hang out in a place where the electricity works!! We're on the 15th floor and about to order room service. Life is good.

More soon!
~Kate

p.s., Andy always makes that face in pictures because he knows it drives me nuts!
